Wild
Rice Review in Acoustic Guitar Magazine:
Wild Rice was reviewed in the November edition of Acoustic
Guitar Magazine! Here's what reviewer Celine
Keating had to say:
On their first CD together, Ottawa, Canada–based
guitarists Paul Bourdeau and Shane Simpson perform complex
instrumentals that span jazz and bluegrass and, as on
the luminous “Where the Water Meets the Sand,”
venture into impressionistic terrain. Despite hailing
from different musical backgrounds—Bourdeau is known
as a jazz-fusion stylist, the jazz-trained Simpson has
recorded as an acoustic folk-rock singer-songwriter—their
sound has the fluidity and integrity of a single organism.
The title track is a tribute to Tony Rice, and on that
and their other original compositions, especially “More
Acoustic” and “The Beiseker Road,” the
duo’s playing is as crisp and tight as that of the
master flatpicker himself. - Celine Keating, November
